We are currently in Chania (hania) which is about 45 minutes west of Rethymno, which is where we are staying. (Pictures will be posted-- currently we are having problems with the computer.) In each town, we have been visiting the "old town" area, and we must continually exclaim to each other, " . . . wow, look at those old buildings, the narrow streets, the stone walls, etc., . . ." We just entered Hania, the old town, and found this internet cafe, two euros for 60 minutes-- average price. It is 2p.m. We left Rethmno around 10a.m. and since then traveled to Aptera, which is an old town next to Hania. While there we saw the Roman baths, theater, huge cisterns, a monastery, incredible history. While on the walking tour, we also saw some old ruins where German soldiers had set up there machine guns in the old stone walls. We saw a Turkish fort, which is a reminder of the multiple nationalities that have been part of Crete, over the ages. We wish you could see what we see; we consider it a real privilege to be here. We need to schedule a ferry to mainland Greece; the girls are out shopping in Old Town Hania, they will be back in about 50 minutes.

  1. That sounds incredible, visiting all those historical locations. Your last sentience mentioned what seams to be an oxymoronic statement. Girls shopping with a fixed return time…. :)

Sounds like you are all having a great time! Have fun, and I look forward to seeing more picture.

  4. Dear Davises, It has been fascinating to read of your travels in Crete. While we have never been to Crete, nor to Greece itself for that matter, we have been to several countries with Mediterranean climate and culture, so we sort of live your trip vicariously with you. This is an experience your girls will never forget, and we are glad you are doing this for them. Now when you get to Florence and Venice, we will REALLY identify, and are interested in how your experiences there compare with ours. We will pray for safety for you, as well as godly relationships when the "challenges" in the trip arrive! We can hardly wait to see you on the 29th and hear, if not "ALL about it," at least a bit of what you will have seen and done.
    With much love,
    Richard and Lois
